📡 Scanner Opening Range Breakout

ORB
Scanner

The Opening Range Breakout is one of the oldest and most reliable intraday strategies. Zenvest Edge monitors the first 30-minute high and low for every scanned instrument and fires an alert the moment price breaks out giving you early-mover advantage on the day's most significant momentum moves.

The ORB Concept

The First 30 Minutes Set the Day's Direction

The Opening Range (OR) is defined as the highest high and lowest low of the first 30 minutes of the regular trading session (9:3010:00 ET). This range captures the initial battle between buyers and sellers as overnight positions are unwound and institutional orders flow into the market.

When price breaks above the ORB high with conviction, it signals that buyers have won the opening battle setting up momentum continuation trades. A break below the ORB low signals seller dominance. The ORB scanner fires the instant either boundary is crossed.

  • Calculates ORB High and ORB Low from 9:3010:00 ET data
  • Fires instantly when price crosses either boundary
  • Direction displayed: Bullish breakout / Bearish breakdown
  • Distance from range boundary shown for context
  • Works on equity futures (ES, NQ, YM) and top NASDAQ stocks

ORB vs ORB Breakout Which to Use?

We offer two ORB scanners optimised for different trading styles.

🎯

ORB Scanner (This Page)

Fires the moment price touches the ORB high or low including wicks. Best for scalpers and fast momentum traders who want early entry and can manage the risk of a false wick breakout.

  • Earliest possible signal
  • Wick crosses count as breakouts
  • Higher signal frequency
  • Tighter stops required
💥

ORB Breakout Scanner

Only fires when a full candle body closes outside the opening range. Eliminates wick-only false breakouts. Better for swing traders and those who prefer fewer, higher-probability signals.

  • Candle body must fully close outside range
  • No false wick signals
  • Fewer signals, higher quality
  • Better for swing entries

Watch After 10:00 ET
The ORB is calculated at 10:00 ET. From 10:00 onwards, the scanner monitors all instruments for range breaks. The most powerful breakouts typically occur within the first hour after the range is set.

Click the Breakout Row
When a breakout fires, click the row. The Trading Dashboard opens with that ticker loaded. Review the chart to see if the breakout has volume support and is clear of nearby FVG resistance.

Check Volume on Footprint
Open Footprint for the same ticker. A genuine ORB breakout should show heavy ask-side volume (buyers stacking) above the ORB high. Low volume on a breakout = higher probability of reversal.
